The approach to Waterloo

The above photo, taken from a balloon over Spring Gardens, shows the railway line up from Vauxhall to Waterloo Station with a Eurostar to the left and suburban trains to the right.

One of the advantages of living in Vauxhall/Kennington is that it has excellent transport links.

  • You can get by Tube direct from Vauxhall or the Oval/Kennington to several London rail termini such as Victoria, Euston and Kings Cross/St Pancras International. You need to change for Paddington and Marylebone (but it's an easy change from the Victoria Line to the Bakerloo line at Oxford Circus). Liverpool Street is a short walk from Moorgate, and Fenchurch St is a short walk from Bank. First tubes are about 0530 weekdays and last tubes arrive about 0030 weekdays.
  • Buses run in all directions from Kennington, Vauxhall and the Oval. If you are not in a hurry, buses really are the best way to see London. Click here to access a detailed map of all London's bus routes.

Trains run every 3 or 4 minutes from Vauxhall (platform 8) to Clapham Junction for frequent connections to South-West London and most of South and South-West England:- ideal for a day out at the seaside. Other trains run north (to Kings Cross, Luton & Bedford) and south (to Wimbledon & Sutton) from Elephant and Castle.
